Marvel Knights: Astonishing X-Men - Gifted DVD Review

Synopsis: Dream-team creators Joss Whedon (TV's Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and John Cassaday (Planetary, Captain America) present the explosive, all-new flagship X-Men series - marking a return to classic greatness and the beginning of a brand-new era for the X-Men! Cyclops and Emma Frost re-form the X-Men with the express purpose of astonishing the world. But when breaking news regarding the mutant gene unexpectedly hits the airwaves, will it derail their new plans before they even get started? As demand for the mutant cure reaches near-riot levels, the X-Men go head-to-head with the enigmatic Ord, with an unexpected ally - and some unexpected adversaries - tipping the scales!

Review: The new Marvel Knights DVD series are motion comics.  This is a concept that was poineered by Dc Comics (for once) and taken over by Marvel.  Marvel Comics has been taking some of their best comics from the past decade and translating them into motion comics.  The DVDs are being released through Shout! Factory.

I'm really fond of these new DVDs, mostly because I've always wanted to read a lot of these comics, but I have never found the time.  This is a fun and lazy way to enjoy them.  I've always enjoyed X-Men comics and I'd heard nothing but good things about Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men.  It was a great story and once you get used to the motion comic thing, its really fun.

The special features on this DVD include: A Conversation With Joe Quesada And Neal Adams, Behind-The-Scenes Look At Marvel Knights Animation, The Best Of Marvel Super Heroes: What The —? X-Men Edition, Visual History Of The Characters, Music Video and Trailers.
Interest Range: Marvel Comics, X-Men, Motion Comics
