Whip It Blu-Ray Review

Whip It Blu-Ray Review

You can own this title on blu-ray today!

Synopsis: Hang onto your helmet and get ready to break away from the pack! Ellen Page scores huge laughs as Bliss Cavendar, a small-town teenager with a big dream: to find her own path in the world. Tired of following in her family’s footsteps of compliance and conformity, Bliss discovers a way to put her life on the fast track...literally. She lands a spot on a rough-and-tumble roller derby team and becomes “Babe Ruthless” — the hottest thing on eight wheels! Co-starring Drew Barrymore (in her feature film directorial debut), Marcia Gay Harden, Juliette Lewis, Daniel Stern and Jimmy Fallon, Whip It is a triumphant, free-spirited comedy loaded with high-speed action and nonstop fun!

Review: This quirky new comedy comes from the twisted mind of Drew Barrymore, who is throwing her hat into the director's chair.  This is the first feature film that she has directed, and I have to say that it comes off a lot like one of her own vehicles of the past.  This film reminds me a little of Never Been Kissed, in tone if not in subject matter.  The lead is played by Juno alum Ellen Page.  She has really made herself the queen of semi-mainstream indie films.

Whip-It is not a ground-breaking film by any means, but its sure a lot of fun.  Its almost an inspirational sports film, but it has too many elements of sarcasm and cheeky humor.  This film is basically about a girl that is forced into being a beauty queen, but finds herself when she joins the roller derby.  Its got some great deadpan lines and kinda follows in the footsteps of Dodgeball in some ways.  Its a good film.

The blu-ray transfer is fantastic.  The colors are sharp and the high-definition is crisp.  The audio tracks on the blu-ray are English: 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio / Spanish: 5.1 Dolby Digital / French: 5.1 Dolby Digital

Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars
