Birds of Prey: The Complete Series DVD Review

Birds of Prey: The Complete Series DVD

Available to own Tuesday, July 15, 2008!

Synopsis: Who will stand up to villains now that a heartbroken Dark Knight has mysteriously vanished? Never fear, New Gothamites, a trio of champions is ready to take wing - and Helena, the daughter of Batman and Catwoman, is among them. She calls herself Huntress and crime is her prey. Teenaged Dinah is the youngest of the group, learning as she goes and gifted in clairvoyance. And overseeing the awesome threesome's high-tech nerve center is Batgirl. Left wheelchair-bound by The Joker, she has reinvented herself as Oracle, the team's cyber expert. Huntress, Dinah, Oracle: They are the Birds of Prey. Fighting together. Living together. And soaring into adventure together in 13 breathtaking live-action episodes.

Review: This show was very controvertial when it first aired years ago. It took some pre-crisis origins and twisted them around to create a show that most fans just couldn't get behind. In watching the show years later, its not so bad, though. Perhaps its years of Smallville that have calmed me or just the years of distance..but honestly this wasn't too terrible. The best part of this DVD, though, is the complete series of flash animation Gotham Girls cartoons! These three minute shorts appeared online many years ago and have been a fan favorite ever since. Its nice to have them on DVD in some capacity.

This action packed 2-disc collection contains thirteen episodes and special features highlighting a motley crew of scoundrels and crooks including:Teen Titans: Friend and Foes - The fifth season of Teen Titans finds our heroes in a worldwide membership drive recruiting new allies to combat the growing Brotherhood of Evil. In order to prepare for the final battle, all new character files for the Titans database have been created. The vignettes include: 1.) Control Freak 2.) Bob & The Source 3.) Billy Numerous 4.) Mother Mae-Eye 5.) Trigon

Review: The Teen Titans cartoon was a seminole work in the timeline of DC Animation. It sparked a more modern sensibility that produced shows like 'The Batman'. It also helped kids gain interest in lesser known DC Comics characters which, to me, is highly valuable. This final season of the show definately didn't disappoint this fan. The DVD is great, its right on par with the rest of the previous season releases. The extras on the DVD are nothing to write home about, but for the pricepoint (around $15) you really can't beat getting an entire season of a hit show. This is the final season and a must have for any batman, dc comics, or just animation fan!

Batman Begins: Limited Edition Gift Set DVD Review

Batman Begins: Limited Edition Gift Set DVD

Click HERE to purchase this DVD!

Synopsis: Batman Begins explores the origins of the Batman legend and the Dark Knight's emergence as a force for good in Gotham. In the wake of his parents' murder, disillusioned industrial heir Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale)travels the world seeking the means to fight injustice and turn fear against those who prey on the fearful. He returns to Gotham and unveils his alter-ego: Batman, a masked crusader who uses his strength, intellect and an array of high tech deceptions to fight the sinister forces that threaten the city.

Review: Alright, now this box set doesn't really contain anything new DVD-wise. If you don't own Batman Begins, well this is the ONLY way I would purchase it. The price point is only around $30 at retail or online and its definately worth it. I could not have been more pleased with this set. The film is the 2-disc special edition that was released back in October of 2005...but the extras in this set make it a lot of fun. There is a Batman logo flash drive, uncut postcards and a Dark Knight preview disc included inside. Not to mention, movie money to go see the Dark Knight. I found this gift set to be a ton of fun and definately something that I will cherish as a Batman fan for years to come. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Batman: Gotham Knight 2 disc Special Edition DVD Review

Synopsis: Acclaimed screenwriters including David Goyer (Batman Begins) Josh Olson (A History of Violence) and Alan Burnett (Batman The Animated Series) join forces with revered animation filmmakers on six spellbinding chapters chronicling Batman?s transition from novice crimefighter to Dark Knight. These globe-spanning adventures pit Batman against the fearsome Scarecrow the freakish Killer Croc and the unerring marksman Deadshot. Using an arsenal of high-tech gadgetry from Wayne Industries Batman?s ethical boundaries exist only where he chooses to place them leaving some fearful of his power. The sharp storytelling complemented by stylish art from some of the world?s most visionary animators masterfully depicts the blurred lines of Batman as man myth and legend.Running Time: 75 min

Review: I was greatly anticipating this DVD, as were many bat-fans. The idea of Batman having the freedom to be more violent and dark was most certainly appealing, however, the execution just wasn't there on this collection of short stories. I wanted to love this one...really, I did, but it left me wanting for so much more. So much different, in fact, that I really have no interest in giving it a second viewing. Does it deserve a first viewing? Perhaps, but its certainly not essential to view. Its a great piece for collectors and Batman nuts (such as myself), but its just not what it was hyped to be. Batman does a lot of bleeding, you can tell that they were very pleased with themselves for being able to show some blood. Oh, and he hangs out in sewers alot. I don't know why..but apparently he likes it down there..its very dark..and he's very bloody. Thats about all I took from this feature. Kevin Conroy reprises the voice role that he made famous and I can honestly say that is the only reason I didn't regret watching this. Conroy is amazing, the essence of Batman...he IS Batman. For that reason, I will recommend this to serious fans (but serious fans only).
