| >> MAY 4th, 2009! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TOY REVIEW: Shadowhawk variant by Shocker Toys |
| When I first caught wind of the Indie Spotlight Action Figure toyline from Shocker Toys I was skeptical. Why? Well, honestly I haven't seen a whole lot of nice sculpts come out of the smaller toy companies. I usually stick to my Four Horsemen sculpts and some of the work at NECA. However, when I saw pics at Toy Fair, this line caught my eye. Not only are the sculpts accurate as hell, the line features a TON of characters and a wave 2 thats to die for! Today I'm gonna showcase the Shadowhawk variant figure. |
| Packaging: I have to say that as a collector, Shocker won me over instantly with their great packaging. You can actually remove the plastic bubble and the card from this figure without ANY tearing whatsoever and place it right back in the package when you're done! This is so handy for displays that are ever-changing. Sculpt: The accuracy on the sculpt is uncanny. It honestly looks like it could've jumped right off of Jim Valentino's pages! (If you're not familiar with shadowhawk, brush up! He's an iconic 90s superhero. Click HERE for deatils on him.) He's about 5-5.5" tall and sits in great comparison in scale to the 6" Mattel Dc Comics figures (see pics below). Articulation: The sculpt is usually compromised with high articulation (ie: Marvel Legends), but not in this case. I don't know what magic those crazy bastards at Shocker did here, but this figure maintains his inegrity, while also having a high-functioning level of playability for those of us that are still kids at heart! Price: These run just under $20. For specialty market figures, thats about on target. These are an absolute MUST have for serious comic book fans and toy collectors! |
| >> APRIL 15th, 2009! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TOY REVIEW: Iron Man Helmet - Mark 1 by Sideshow Collectibles |
| The fine folks at Webcardz were kind enough to send over some samples of their new Ben10 product to the ToyLegion.com offices for us to review. I have to be honest, at first I was very skeptical about this product. I'm a fan of Ben10, as are my children, and I really didn't want to see the show become over-licensed. I'm happy to say that I was wrong. |
| Packaging: The first thing that strikes you is the high-quality packaging on these. It occured to me looking at them that I'd almost rather hang them on my wall for collecting purposes, rather than open them. These are perfect for anyone that displays Ben10 merchandise. Although I recommend buying two of each if thats the case, because you'll want to break these open and play with them! Sculpt: The pictures will show you everything that I can express here. These are a lot larger in scale than I thought that they would be. They're really like little action figures mounted on stands. I assumed they would be more in-scale with the Dc Heroclix line. Instead, these are at least 4x as large. See pics below: Game Play: The gameplay isn't recommended for little kids, but I have a 4 and a 6 year old that are Ben10 crazy, so we decided to give it a go anyway. Let me tell you, they were able to keep up just fine. This is a really fun game that styles itself loosely after the connecting dominos concept. We had a blast playing this one together. |
| I highly recommend these for adult and child fans. They run somewhere between $10-$12 or so, depending on where you pick them up. For more details on these, and the detailed instructions on how to play the game, visit the official Webcardz website: http://www.webcardz.com/Ben10/ |
| >> MARCH 4th, 2009! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------e TOY REVIEW: BEN 10 Webcardz! |
| Alright, today we're gonna check out the Sideshow Collectibles Iron Man Helmet - Mark 1 scaled replica. This is based, of course, from the smash hit Iron Man movie from summer 2008! Who didn't see this one? Everyone loved it. News of Iron Man 2 is already flooding the net, so we definately had to throw in an Iron Man review for the Marvel fans! |
| Packaging: This one comes in a nice, tidy little box, well-packed. This isn't something you can display in the package, as is the case with most high-end collectibles. This bad boy looks better out anyway. He appears small at first, but once you let it sit for awhile, it has a great presence on the shelf. Sculpt: On that note..the sculpt. My god this one is great. Its a bit small, like I mentioned above, but that quickly gets out-weighed by the immense detail and quality level that the sculptor put into it. Its a beautiful piece. I have it set on a shelf of our DVD collection..it looks great there. Cost: This is my favorite part of this product. Its only $40! Thats right! You can order this right now on the Sideshow site for only $40. For a joint movie/comic collectible like this, you typically have to pay twice that much! You can CLICK HERE and order today. |

| SYNOPSIS: Really? Do you really need this? This is the 1989 epic that brought Batman into the serious mainstream and changed the course of the character forever. The first of two Tim Burton helmed films, Batman introduced Michael Keaton as the Batman and Jack Nicholson as the Joker. REVIEW: A lot of movies come out on Blu-Ray. There are some really bad transfers out there, I won't lie to you. Beetlejuice comes to mind. A fantastic Keaton/Burton film that had no upconvert when they put it on Blu-Ray. Its horrible. Batman, however, is a shining example of what Blu-Ray is and should be. Not onlyl is this an iconic film for many of us, but its now in high definition. You see things you couldn't before. Colors are crisper..the sound is amazing. Wow. Its like being a kid again, watching it for the first time. The reality is this...if you own the Batman Anthology Blu-Ray gift set, you already have everything this Blu-Ray edition has to offer on the dics themselves. This set is great, however, if you're a collector. It comes with an attached booklet that has experpts from the original movie book, script and comic. Its a great way to commemorate this film in your collection. RATING: This is ESSENTIAL for any serious or casual Bat-Fan. 5 out of 5 Bats! | >> MAY 22nd, 2009! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DVD REVIEW: Scooby Doo, Where Are You?: Season One, Vol. 2 - Bump in the Night |
![]() |
| Synopsis: The whodunit format was a daring new frontier for an animated series, but the members of the Mystery Inc. team have grown to become authentic popular-culture icons. Review: This is the second ‘single disc’ release of the classic “Scooby Doo, Where are You?” cartoon on DVD. These episodes were all released in complete season sets many years ago. The four episodes on this disc include: Decoy for a Dognapper, What the Hex is Going On?, Never Ape an Ape Man, and Foul Play. What do you say about this show, its what made Scooby Doo what it is today, a cultural icon. This was the original formula of gang catches ghost that is inevitabley a carnival worker or a shop owner trying to scare away business from other stores. There was always something crazy going on. Whether you caught these are re-runs, like me, or watched them as they aired, these are such a treat for the adult animation fan and to share with your kids. Rating: 4 out of 5 Bats |

| >> MAY 25th, 2009! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PRODUCT REVIEW: The week of Gamer Graffix! Day Two |
| The first two items we're going to spotlight are some great Dark Knight movie themed Joker wall graphics. I got ahold of some fathead brand wall graphics awhile back and I wasn't terribly impressed. These ones, however, are amazing. The images are straight out of the official Dark Knight style guide and they couldn't be crisper. Towering at 3.5 feet tall a pieces (or 40x40 inches) either of these looks menacing and stylish in your tv/movie/game area or to compliment the backround of your toy collection! You can click either of the images below to be taken to the Gamer Graffix site and purchase them. They cost is only about $60 each, which is a steal compared to the lofty $100 fathead was charging. |
| Today is day two of the LOG Gamer Graffix spotlight. Today we're featuring handheld skins! You can get these in Dark Knight or LEGO Batman themes. We're going to feature the Dark Knight themes. They make them for Nintendo DS and PSP, and let me tell you nothing covers a boring DS or PSP like one of these skins. They're great. And these only run about $15, so at that price you can pick up more than one! |
| >> MAY 26th, 2009! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PRODUCT REVIEW: The week of Gamer Graffix! Day Three |
| Today is day three of the LOG Gamer Graffix Spotlight. I thought that today we should focus in on something thats not Dark Knight...how about Batman LEGO! There's nothing better than dual collectibles and Batman Lego is definately that! Not only was the video game a BLAST, but now Gamer Graffix has made these kick butt wall graffix to decorate your game/movie space or collection space. | >> MARCH 30th, 2009! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ BOOK REVIEW: Batman: Murder at Wayne Manor, An Interactive Mystery |
| Written by: Duane Swierczynski Illustrated by: David Lapham The Story: When a construction crew at Wayne Manor discovers a long-buried corpse, all the evidence points to Bruce Wayne's late father, Thomas, as the murderer. Torn between the need to protect his father's honor and his thirst for dispensing justice, Batman sets out to solve this coldest of cases, using police reports, his father's private journal, maps of Wayne Manor, news clippings, forensic samples, and photographs from family albums (all included throughout the book as removable facsimiles). Was Dr. Wayne—whom young Bruce Wayne swore to avenge on that bloody night in Gotham City—actually a killer? It's up to you to sift through the clues and solve this thrilling whodunit. When you've identified the culprit, you can open the final signature of the book (sealed at the printer) to read the remainder of the story. Complete with eye-popping illustrations and first-rate production values, Batman: Murder at Wayne Manor will appeal to mystery buffs of all ages Our Review: From the moment this bad boy arrived in the mail, I was impressed. This premium format, interactive book is a gem. The story is solid, but the real fun comes in the interactive pieces of evidence that you get along the way while trying to solve this mystery. Everything from documents to a coaster from a fake restaurant...its really above and beyond what I expected. I sat down with my kids and read through this one and we all enjoyed it. It also makes a great piece in the ol' Batman collection. I have to highly recommend this one. Its a lot of fun. Its high quality and looks great on the shelf, I can't say enough about this book. | >> MARCH 29th, 2009! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------e DVD REVIEW: Ricky Gervais: Out of England DVD Special |
| Description: Taped live before a sold-out audience at the WaMu Theater at New York Citys Madison Square Garden, Ricky Gervais: Out of England The Stand-Up Special is a high-spirited hour of offbeat observations and understated humor from the actor/comedian/writer/director. The show includes Gervais unique takes on such disparate (and often politically incorrect)issues as fund-raising, autism, fame, nursery rhymes, Nazis, moronic friends, obesity … and his penis size. Our Review: I've seen the BBC Office..I've seen Ghosttown...I've seen the show Extras. I know who Ricky Gervais is. What I didn't know is how profoundly hilarious his stand-up routine is. Oh, my god. I can't even begin to describe how funny this DVD was. Ricky touches on EVERYTHING that you should never make fun of. If you enjoy extreme comedy and over the top laughs, this one is for you. The DVD didn't have much for extras. Thats its only fault, but honestly, what do we want for extras on a comedy show? Rating: 5 out of 5! a MUST watch! Click HERE to purchase this DVD today! | >> MAY 10th, 2009! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DVD REVIEW: TrueBlood - the Complete First Season DVD |
| Synopsis: TRUE BLOOD chronicles the backwoods Louisiana town of Bon Temps... where vampires have emerged from the coffin, and no longer need humans for their fix. Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin, Golden Globe(R)-winner for "True Blood", Academy Award®-winner for “The Piano”) works as a waitress at the rural bar Merlotte's. Though outwardly a typical young woman, she keeps a dangerous secret: she has the ability to hear the thoughts of others. Her situation is further complicated when the bar gets its first vampire patron - 173-year old Bill Compton (Steven Moyer, "Quills") - and the two outsiders are immediately drawn to each other. Delivering the best of what audiences have come to expect from Creator and Executive Producer Alan Ball (writer of Oscar®-winning Best Picture “American Beauty”, creator of the Emmy® Award-winning HBO® series “Six Feet Under”), TRUE BLOOD is a dark and sexy tale that boldly delves into the heart - and the neck - of the Deep South. Review: This was a show that I'd heard a lot about, but had never seen on tv. I knew of the books and there was a lot of buzz surrounding the series. I can see now why there was. At first glance, this appears to be a campy supernatural soap opera, but upon closer examination, I found something rather smart. This show surprised me. I found myself caring about unconventional characters that really balanced between the problems of a supernatural world and the daily problems of the real world. It was a wonderfully fanciful, yet grounded look at the dark world of the undead. A lot of fun and if you're into TV at all, definately something you should see. | >> APRIL 14th, 2009! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ DVD REVIEW: House of Saddam HBO series |
| Available to own on DVD Today! Click HERE to buy it today! SYNOPSIS: Revealing the private world of Saddam Hussein and his inner circle, this gripping 4-part, 4-hour miniseries charts the rise and fall of one of the most significant political figures in recent history. Over the course of 27 years, Saddam (Igal Naor) rose from peasant origins to the highest office in Iraq, consolidating his power by executing those who posed real or imagined threats, and surrounding himself with family members, ultimately his notorious sons Uday and Qusay. Along the way, Saddam pushed aside his wife Sajida (Oscar® nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo) for a young mistress, orchestrated the death of Sajidas brother Adnan (his closest confidante), and forced two cousins of high rank who had married his daughters to divorce their wives before meeting a grisly end. In the end, House of Saddam reveals its title character as a man of undeniable vision ultimately brought down by his own flaws especially an unquenchable thirst for power, attained at all costs, including the sacrifice of those who were closest to him. REVIEW: In these times of war, its always of interest to see a profile on someone that has been infamous in the public eye for so long. What house of Saddam does is actually make a subject that would bore most as a documentary into a riveting and dramatic mini-series. This mini-series really compliments the documentary I watched recently "Uncle Saddam". This adds a more enteraining drama-fueled aspect to the situation, obviously. The only things I noticed that this DVD did not include was a few of Saddams major 'war-crimes'. Beyond that, however, this is a great and seemingly accurate portrayl of a madman bent on power and control. Jewish Iraqi actor Yigal Naor did an amazing job transforming himself into the late dictator. His performance is powerful and driven. Nice work HBO. RATING: This is a greatly entertaining, but serious show. We give it 4 out of 5 |

| Today we are taking a break from our week of Gamer Graffix to show you another wall applique company. We'll return to Gamer Graffix soon to showcase their great video game console skins! Now, we bring you Roommates. They have produced some great Batman and Dark Knight product. Today we're going to review their Dark Knight Batman and Joker wall appliques. They actually compliment the Gamer Graffix line, because they are different images from the Dark Knight style guide. These differ in that they come in pieces, rather than as one large sticker like the Gamer Graffix line. Both are fantastic and highly recommended for your game/movie/collection room! | >> JUNE 3rd, 2009! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOOK REVIEW: Enemies and Allies! |
| Written by: Kevin J. Anderson Summary: As America and the Soviet Union race to build their nuclear stockpiles, two extraordinary heroes must form an uneasy alliance. These studies in opposites—shadow and light—must overcome their distrust of each other to battle evil and injustice. Sputnik silently circles in the skies above the fabled cities of the United States as danger lurks in the Earth's darkest corners. In Gotham, the shadowy vigilante known as the Batman haunts Gotham's streets . . . and the police are just as afraid of this Dark Knight as the city's criminals are. In Metropolis, the notorious Lex Luthor is leveraging international tensions to build LuthorCorp into a military-industrial empire, competing against his business rival Wayne Industries, which is run by Gotham's enigmatic millionaire, Bruce Wayne. Luthor's activities have raised the interest of Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane, who is beginning to realize that Luthor may stop at nothing to achieve success. At the same time, Clark Kent and Jimmy Olsen are investigating the rumored crash of a flying saucer. Clark is desperate to know if there may be other lost interplanetary visitors on Earth secretly living among them—visitors like himself. When Batman's and Superman's paths cross, their lives change, and history will never be the same. Review: I went into this book a little skeptical. I've always regarded the comic books and graphic novels as the best source of Batman material, and honestly the novels over the years haven't impressed me much. Recently, thanks a lot to the RIP storyline and other such nonsense in comics, I haven't been reading them much. Its upsetting to me, because I love to follow along with the growth of these characters, but I feel that the direction they've been going is wrong. This book, however, was a breath of fresh air. I was surprised at how quickly it drew me in. The backdrop is a cold war era world, something I grew up in the last decade of, so its of interest to me. The author manages to throw in so much detail of the 1950s cold war era, that he even appropriately names Marilyn Monroe's husband at the time, playwright Arthur Miller. The book intertwines our favorite DC characters with actual historic ones, such as the infamous Senator McCarthy. The only complaint I had about this book is that its primary focus seems to be on Superman, rather than Batman. We do get a lot of Bat-time and some great moments, especially as Bruce Wayne, and we see a lot of Lex Luthor, whom I regard as one of the best villains of the past century. This book is a MUST have. I don't say that lightly, I mean I recommend it to all Batman fans. Its highly enjoyable and really captures the essence of these characters that we love and regard so highly. If you consider yourself a Batman or Superman fan, this title should absolutely be on your shelf. Rating: a STRONG 5 out of 5 Bats To own this book today, click HERE >> |

Review: I've been a Ghostbusters fanatic since I saw the film in the theater when I was five! This cartoon represents a HUGE part of my childhood, as it does many of us children of the 80s out there! This set is an absolute dream. I collect animation and I've seen a lot of "ultimate" box sets...they don't even compare to this. You can see by the list of items above, this set is no joke. You could wait and buy each volume individually, but you'd miss out on the amazing packaging and the great bonus disc/book (see pics below) The picture and sound quality is surprisingly good and the features could not be more in-depth. The packaging is compact and each season comes in a beautiful steelbook case! I HIGHLY recommend purchasing this set. | >> JUNE 11th, 2009! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BLU RAY REVIEW: Spring Breakdown |
| Spring Breakdown Blu-Ray Review Available to own now on Blu-Ray! Click here to purchase it today Synopsis: All-season comedy fun gets sprung in a big way when Saturday Night Live veterans Amy Poehler (Baby Mama), Rachel Dratch (I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry) and Will Arnett (Semi-Pro) gear up for one huge Spring Breakdown. Thirtysomething best friends Gayle (Poehler), Becky (Parker Posey) and Judi (Dratch) have always dreamed of being fabulous. But they never grew out of being geeks. So when Becky gets the opportunity to unofficially chaperone her boss daughter Ashley (Amber Tamblyn) to the college spring-break destination of South Padre Island, the ladies decide to turn their tragically unhip lives around and party with the beer-and-bikini set. Through keg-stands, hookups and foam parties, Becky, Gayle, Judi and Ashley are about to discover that its better to stand out than to fit in. Review: Ok, I won't lie to you, going into this movie I thought it was going to be really, really, really stupid. I do, however, like Amy Poehler..her performance in 'Baby Mama' was fantastic. Rachel Dratch was hilarious on SNL and in 'I Know Pronounce You Chuck and Larry'. Parker Posey, on the other hand, doesn't typically do comedy well. She is fairly type cast as an evil hag in most of her roles. Apart, these are great actresses, so I thought perhaps this movie would be funny. Did I laugh? A bit. There were a few physical comedy bits that played out well, but overall this is more of a classic feel-good film more than a straight comedy. Rating: 3 out of 5 |

| Packaging: This 12" figure comes in a nice, sleekly designed black case. Its crafted for the collector, as the front of the package opens to reveal a display window, should you not want to remove your item from its case. It would be a huge error, in our opinion, to leave this one in the package, though. Its amazing on a shelf. Sculpt: There aren't enough good things to say about this Storm Trooper. His sculpt is perfect. The likeness is uncanny. I have this sitting on a shelf in our living room and when you enter the room your eyes are immediately drawn to it. Its a classic character, the Stormtrooper. It has no personality..no voice...and yet its a symbol of the most amazing franchise of all time...Star Wars. And let me tell you, it made me appreciate what the technology can really do. We all know that PIXAR is cutting edge animation, but it really shines when you see it in high definition. Its absolutely breathtaking. This is the way that Pixar films were meant to be viewed. A film like A Bug's Life thats over a decade old is brought back to life in such a special way on this release. The packaging is phenominal. Its comes in a nice shiney slipcase with a number of internal inserts, as is typical with any Disney release. (See our gallery below). I cannot image being a fan of Disney, Pixar or just animation in general and not having this film on blu-ray. Its the way that it was meant to be seen. Its the film that started it all! It spawned a successful cartoon, sequel, toys and comics. Not to mention a cultural phenom and a theme song that is instantly recognizable by just about anyone. This being said, you must own this classic on VHS...DVD perhaps? Well, you've never seen it like this! Ghostbusters blasts its way onto high definition blu-ray disc with this great release from Sony. Its 1080p with dolby lossess audio. I won't lie to you, the transfer includes some grain. Okay, not some grain, a LOT of grain. It also includes some amazing detail on the special effects scenes and for the very first time, the correct color palet. Previous releases have been plagued by various color defects. Well, no more my friend! The release also offers the bonus features of the past DVD release and a few new items. One that stands out is the new Ecto-1: Resurrecting the Classic Car feature. Its a great detailed look at the process of refurbishing the Ecto-1. Anytime you can get new Ghostbusters bonus features, its a win-win situation. The Ghostbusters Blu-Ray disc also allows for BD-Live (Blu-ray profile 2.0), so you can chat with other fans while the movie plays! This is the cutting edge tech for Blu-Ray users and its great to see it included on such a fan-favorite film. Don't have a blu-ray player yet? Need a high-def tv? This is your perfect excuse to pick them up. You need this in your library. Rating: 5 out of 5 |
