Batman vs Superman Movie Review Essay

The beginning of 2016 is characterized with the creation of a new superhero film called Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. The DC Comics fans have been looking forward to watching this movie whereas it reveals a new story about their favorite characters Batman and Superman. The film serves as continuation of the Superman film, Man of Steel. At the same time, it is the first part of a new trilogy related to Batman. The further parts of the trilogy, Justice League Part One and Justice League Part Two, will see the world in 2017 and 2019. The movie is directed by Zack Snyder, a famous director who is known for such films as 300, Watchmen and Man of Steel. The genre of the film is a superhero drama. It is possible to say that it is a classical dark and serious DC Comics movie.

The plot of Batman vs Superman is curious and imposing. You will not see meaningless and unreasonable scenes of battles between the groups of superheroes who have just decided to match themselves. We discover that Superman has become a controversial and disputable figure whereas the result of his battle against General Zod is disastrous for Metropolis and its inhabitants. Numerous buildings are ruined and many people are killed. The conflict between Batman and Superman is based on the destruction of the building belonging to Wayne Enterprises. A great number of his employees and friends die. Thus, Bruce Wayne (Batman) treats Clark Kent (Superman) as a threat to the entire humanity. Superman behaves like a God and this behavior irritates Bruce. Some people treat Superman as a godlike figure. Others are afraid of his unlimited powers. Lex Luthor, a supervillain, wants to get rid of Superman with the help of the Kryptonite that is enormously dangerous for the latter. Batman steals this weapon and decides to fight against Superman. Fortunately, both superheroes understand that they should combine their efforts for the destruction of more dangerous and notable evils like Lux Lethor and his powerful creature made from General Zod’s body, Doomsday.

Needless to say but fans and critics reacted to the casting of Dawn of Justice arguably. The entire Internet roared with indignation that Ben Affleck and Jesse Eisenberg were the worst candidates for the roles of Batman and Lex Luthor. Very few people supported Affleck in the role of Batman. In spite of these protests, Zack Snyder gave the role to Affleck. In my opinion, the choice was reasonable, inasmuch as the actor’s appearance is perfect to represent a tired, mature and wise Bruce Wayne who has devoted more than twenty years of life to the struggle against crime and various villains. I was satisfied with the choice of Henry Cavill (Superman). He looks like a classical Superman and he played this paramount role professionally.

I want to emphasize the contribution of Michael Wilkinson, costume designer, into the general image of the movie. The Batsuit and the costume of Superman look magnificently and splendidly. I enjoy the dim colors of Superman’s dark blue suit. However, Wilkinson could have made the entire image of Wonder Woman more colorful. On the other hand, he tried to attach this superhero to the gloomy DC Extended Universe.

I appreciate the choice of the composer of the soundtracks of the movie. Hans Zimmer is famous for the creation of music for the most outstanding films of our time. His work improved the general atmosphere of Dawn of Justice.

The majority of the prominent critics evaluated Batman vs Superman as a poor-quality movie. The average rating of the movie is equal to 5/10. Critics say that the biggest disadvantage of this film is its open ending and enormously dull and oppressive atmosphere. In my opinion, the gloomy atmosphere of Dawn of Justice is its strong side whereas a drama movie cannot be funny and entertaining. The public thinks in the same way; therefore, the average rating of common viewers is 7.4/10.

The special effects of the film are perfect. Modern technologies have been used in the appropriate way. For that reason, we are able to admire its magnificent and affecting picture. A common viewer will enjoy epic battle scenes and action presented in the film. To my mind, the majority of statements of sceptics are unjustified. They criticized Batman vs Superman even before its release. Hereupon, their critique is subjective and it is not necessary to pay attention to it. If you enjoy Batman, Superman and the entire DC Universe, Dawn of Justice is just for you.
