Forbidden Planet Blu-Ray Review

Forbidden Planet Blu-Ray Review

Synopsis: Forbidden Planet is the granddaddy of tomorrow, a pioneering work whose ideas and style would be reverse-engineered into many cinematic space voyages to come. Leslie Nielsen plays the commander who brings his spacecruiser crew to Planet Altair-4, home to Dr. Morbius (Walter Pidgeon), his daughter (Anne Francis), a dutiful robot named Robby…and to a mysterious terror. Featuring sets of extraordinary scale and the first all-electronic musical soundscape in film history, Forbidden Planet is in a movie orbit all its own.

Review: Forbidden Planet is a classic sci-fi feature film from 1956.   Its the precursor to a lot of shows that would later become legendary, like Star Trek and Lost in Space.   Its basically a sci-fi adaptation of the Tempest by William Shakespeare.  The bottom line on this film...its one of the best examples of the 1950s vintage sci-fi movement.

Its an odd move by WB to put a film like this on blu-ray, but I'm not complaining.   I was a little skeptical about how the picture would look, but its actually really cool.  The high-definition transfer comes through on the detail and there is a smooth look to the film that is very enjoyable.  This one is a must for any serious sci-fi fan.
