Trail of Tears DVD Review

Trail of Tears DVD Review

Synopsis: Native Americans have experienced a history full of oppression and racism. Since the period when Native tribes were found on this continent at the time of its 'discovery', the British and American governments disregarded Native Americans as the owners of the territory they occupied and used aggressive force to take their lands and destroy their people. This harrowing and compelling compilation of 4 award-winning documentary programs chronicles the struggles of the Native American culture from the forced relocation known as the Trail of Tears to the current issues faced by America's aboriginal people.

Review: History often forgets the lengths of which the Native Americans have suffered.  Fortunately, not all have forgotten and we have a great collection here of four documentaries that chronicle the struggle of the Native American people over the years....

Trail of Tears: Cherokee Legacy - 105 min
Black Indians: An American Story - 52 mins
Native American Healing in the 21st Century - 52 min
Our Spirits Don't Speak English: Indian Boarding School - 53 mins

Mill Creek has released these all in a huge compilation titled 'Trail of Tears' and has made these wonderful and enlightening documentaries affordable to us all.  Thanks to Mill Creek we can enjoy these interesting looks at another culture embedded deep within America with roots and ties to the very fiber of our land.

I recommend that everyone watch these documentaries.  Its great for homechooling, classrooms or just to share with your family to better understand a culture that is all too often overlooked and misjudged.
